Asutifi South and Asutifi North MPs Clarify Role in NAIMOS Operation, Demand Investigation into Misinformation

The Members of Parliament for Asutifi South and Asutifi North constituencies, Collins Dauda and Ebenezer Kwaku Addo, have clarified their roles in a recent operation by the National Anti-Illegal Mining Taskforce (NAIMOS) in the Asutifi South Constituency.

In a press release, the MPs’ communications directorate explained that Ebenezer Addo, who was en route to a funeral in Acherensua, intervened in a standoff between NAIMOS operatives and the owner of a designated site to de-escalate tensions and prevent a breakdown of law and order.

The MPs emphasised that their involvement was solely to calm the situation and ensure peace, contrary to false reports by Erastus Asare Donkor that they were opposed to NAIMOS’ operations.

Key Facts:

– Hon. Ebenezer Addo arrived at the scene with only two people – his vice-chairman and driver.
– He contacted Hon. Collins Dauda, who, in turn, spoke to the Director of NAIMOS to resolve the situation.
– The MPs have no personal or financial interest in any illegal mining operations.

The MPs have called on the appropriate authorities to conduct a thorough investigation into the incident to establish the facts and restore their reputations. They described Donkor’s report as “blatant and deliberate misinformation” aimed at tarnishing their image.

The MPs reiterated their support for NAIMOS’ efforts to combat illegal mining activities and emphasised that their actions were aimed at promoting peace and stability in the area.
