NPP Condemns Death Threats and Physical Assault by NDC Executives

The largest opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) has strongly condemned what it describes as threats of death and acts of violence perpetrated by key officers of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC).

In a statement issued on Tuesday, September 3, 2025, and signed by the General Secretary, Justin Kodua Frimpong, the NPP alleged that the Minority Leader, Osahen Alexander Afenyo-Markin; the Party’s National Organiser, Henry Nana Boakye; and the Majority Chief Whip, Frank Annor Dompreh, have all been threatened with death by the NDC’s 1st National Vice Chairman, Chief Sofo Azorka, together with the Abuakwa North Constituency Communication Officer, Alhaji Abdul Wahab Amadu.

The statement further accused Chief Sofo Azorka and a group of supporters of physically assaulting the NPP’s 3rd National Vice Chairman, Alhaji Osman Masawudu.

“The violent conduct of no mean a person than a national officer of the ruling party and a constituency officer diminishes the gains of our democracy and has the potential to create further insecurity in the country, especially in the face of Ghana’s recent decline in the Global Peace Index Ranking,” the statement read.

The NPP says it will formally lodge complaints with the Ghana Police Service against the individuals named. It has also called on the Inspector General of Police to take swift action by arresting and investigating Chief Sofo Azorka, Alhaji Abdul Wahab, and others captured in videos circulating in the media.

“The recklessness of the actions of Chief Sofo Azorka and Alhaji Abdul Wahab ought to be properly investigated and punished,” the statement concluded.

The Party has urged the police to act decisively to ensure that peace and democratic stability are safeguarded.
