“Our Engagements Are Bearing Fruit for Ghanaians” – Sam George Announces Massive Data Increases Across All Networks

Minister for Communication, Digital Technology, and Innovations, Samuel Nartey George, has announced massive increases in data bundle allocations across all telecommunication networks in Ghana, effective July 1, 2025.

The announcement was made at a press conference in Accra today, June 10, 2025, where the Minister disclosed that the increases are the result of successful negotiations with telecom CEOs to improve value for consumers amid rising concerns over data affordability.

“The Minister cannot unilaterally order telcos to reduce data prices. I’m committed to an engagement-led style of leadership. The recovery of 8 years of mismanagement can’t be completed in four months.”

“I am pleased to announce that my engagement with the CEOs has resulted in the following specific measures,” Mr. George said.

Revised Data Bundle Allocations:

AirtelTigo Ghana (AT Ghana):

Telecel Ghana:

  • GH₵400 bundle increased from 90GB to 250GB

MTN Ghana:

  • 15% increase across all data bundles

  • Restoration of the GH₵399 bundle offering 214GB (replacing the GH₵350 for 92.88GB previously)

Mr. George acknowledged the cost implications for the telecom operators, saying:

“I am aware these increases will come at considerable cost to the network operators. The regulator, the NCA, will ensure that it monitors the strict implementation of this directive on July 1st. Where failure is applied, sanction is applied,” Sam George warned.

Nonetheless, he commended their cooperation and stressed the government’s commitment to ensuring digital access remains affordable for all.

“I am glad that our engagements and consultations are bearing fruit for the Ghanaian people.”

The Minister praised the CEOs of the major telecom providers for their responsiveness and willingness to support national digital inclusion goals, describing it as a sign of strengthened collaboration between government and the industry.
