“Am I Not a Ghanaian? They’ve Frozen My Account” – Wontumi Breaks Down, Accuses Mahama of Political Witch-Hunt

Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, has accused President John Mahama and his administration of political persecution following this morning’s joint raid on his residence by a team of police and National Security operatives.

The operatives, armed with a warrant sighted, stormed his premises in what they described as a lawful operation.

But addressing journalists after the incident, a visibly emotional Wontumi described the search as a targeted political attack.

“Am I not a Ghanaian anymore? Now that you’ve won the election and become President, does that mean I’m no longer a Ghanaian?” he asked, lashing out at President Mahama.

He also rallied NPP supporters and concerned citizens to speak out against what he termed abuse of power and injustice.

“Ghanaians, rise! Arise, Ghanaians! All NPP supporters should rise. It is because of you that Mahama is treating me this way,” he charged.

Chairman Wontumi, known for his outspoken political style, questioned the basis for the government’s actions, insisting he had never held a significant public office.

“Was I ever a Vice President? Have I ever chaired a board? Been a CEO? A minister? I am only the chairman of a political party. My job is to campaign,” he said.

He also accused the Mahama-led government of deliberately crippling his businesses.

“You collapsed my business back in 2013. Since you returned to office, you’ve shut down all my operations. Even the bank account I rely on has been frozen,” Wontumi lamented.
