Residents of Ho and its surrounding communities in the Volta Region are facing a dire water shortage following the shutdown of the Kpeve Headworks by the Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL).
The shutdown, necessitated by emergency repair works, has left thousands of households and businesses without water for several days.
The affected areas include Peki, Have, Bame, Akrofu, Ziave, Klefe, and the Ho Municipality. The water shortage has disrupted daily activities and forced residents to seek alternative sources of water, including streams, wells, and the purchase of expensive sachet and bottled water.
In a statement, the GWCL Volta Regional Office confirmed the situation, attributing the shutdown to an unexpected technical fault at the Kpeve Headworks, a critical facility in the region’s water supply chain.
The company assured residents that its emergency response team was working tirelessly to rectify the issue and restore water supply as soon as possible.
“The Ghana Water Company Limited apologizes for the inconvenience caused and assures the public that we are doing everything possible to complete the repair works promptly,” the statement read.
In the interim, the GWCL has advised residents to make alternative arrangements for their water needs. Some community members have expressed frustration over the recurrent nature of water shortages in the area, calling for long-term measures to ensure a more stable water supply system.
As repair works continue, residents remain hopeful for a quick resolution to the crisis. The GWCL has pledged to provide regular updates on the progress of the repairs and the timeline for restoring water supply.
