Adabraka, Madina, Nima, Osu, Labone, others to face power outage today as GRIDCo replaces damaged Ashaiman tower

Adabraka, Madina, Nima, Osu, Labone and several other parts of the Greater Accra Region will experience a 15-hour power outage today, Sunday, August 23, 2026, as the Ghana Grid Company Limited (GRIDCo) undertakes work to replace a damaged transmission tower at Ashaiman.

The planned interruption is scheduled to run from 3:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. to allow GRIDCo to undertake the next phase of work on the transmission tower at the Ashaiman section of the 161kV Tema-Achimota transmission line.

According to GRIDCo, the transmission tower was damaged following a tanker explosion in the area.

In a statement issued on Saturday, August 22, the company said its engineers and technical teams would use the outage period to safely complete the remaining work required to restore the integrity of the transmission line.

GRIDCo said the nature of the work requires power supply to some parts of the Greater Accra Region to be interrupted.

The company added that it is working with the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) to minimise the impact of the planned interruption on customers and communities in the affected areas.

“We sincerely apologise for the inconvenience this interruption will cause and request the patience, understanding and cooperation of the public as GRIDCO works progressively to complete this critical work,” the statement noted.

In a follow-up statement, the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has released a list of affected areas in Accra that will experience the power outage as GRIDCo undertakes the emergency repair works.
