Joseph Paintsil and Ronald Donkor took centre stage in Major League Soccer over the weekend, with Paintsil scoring twice for LA Galaxy in the El Tráfico derby and Donkor supplying an assist as New York Red Bulls defeated Inter Miami.
Ghana’s Joseph Paintsil was the standout performer, scoring twice as LA Galaxy drew 2-2 with Los Angeles FC in the El Tráfico derby on Sunday. The Ghana international struck in the 34th and 51st minutes before being substituted in the 73rd minute.
Ronald Donkor also impressed, providing an assist for Emil Forsberg’s stoppage-time goal in New York Red Bulls’ 2-0 victory over Inter Miami. Mohammed Sofo started alongside Donkor and played a part in the move that produced the opening goal, an own goal by Inter Miami defender Casemiro.
Maxwell Woledzi featured for Nashville SC as they defeated CF Montréal 2-0 to secure the Supporters’ Shield, while Shak Mohammed was an unused substitute for Nashville.
Ghanaian-born forward Kelvin Yeboah’s Minnesota United drew 0-0 with Houston Dynamo. Yeboah entered the match with 17 goals and three assists for the season but could not add to his impressive tally.
San Diego FC, which featured Ghanaian defender Manu Duah during the season, also shared the points in a 2-2 draw against Seattle Sounders.
Joseph Paintsil’s brace and Donkor’s creative contribution were the weekend’s leading Ghanaian highlights, while Sofo and Woledzi were also part of important results for their respective clubs.
