President John Dramani Mahama has nominated Dr. Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings and Mahama Ayariga as Ministers of State and reassigned two existing ministers to new portfolios in a ministerial reshuffle aimed at strengthening his administration.
The nominations, announced on Friday, August 7, 2026, were submitted to Parliament through the Speaker in accordance with Article 78(1) of the 1992 Constitution for prior approval.
Under the proposed appointments, Dr. Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings, Member of Parliament, has been nominated as Minister for Environment, Science and Technology, while Mahama Ayariga, MP, has been nominated as Minister for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs.
President Mahama has also reassigned Kenneth Gilbert Adjei to head the Ministry of Defence and Ahmed Ibrahim, MP, has been moved to the Ministry of Works, Housing and Water Resources.
The changes were announced in a statement signed by the Minister for Government Communications and Presidential Spokesperson, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, MP.
The statement indicated that the nominations are subject to parliamentary approval before the nominees can assume office. The reassignments form part of the President’s efforts to reposition key ministries to enhance the delivery of government policies and programmes.
