Member of Parliament for Builsa North, James Agalga, has been named as the new Majority Leader in Parliament following the nomination of Mahama Ayariga as Minister for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs-designate.
News Alert GH sources confirmed that Mr Agalga will take over the leadership of the Majority Caucus after Mr Ayariga was nominated to serve in the President’s Cabinet.
The appointment forms part of a wider ministerial reshuffle announced by President Mahama.
Mr Agalga, a former Deputy Minister for the Interior, is expected to steer the government’s legislative agenda in Parliament.
As part of the changes, Kenneth Gilbert Adjei has been reassigned from the Ministry of Works and Housing to the Ministry of Defence.
Ahmed Ibrahim has also been moved from the Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs to the Ministry of Works, Housing and Water Resources.
The President has further nominated Klottey Korle MP Dr Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings as Minister for Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation-designate.
According to a statement from the Presidency, the nominations and ministerial reassignments have been communicated to Parliament through the Speaker in accordance with Article 78(1) of the 1992 Constitution.
