The Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) has reconstituted its Statutory Committees as part of efforts to strengthen the governance, professional development and overall administration of the Association.
The reconstitution, announced by the National Executive on Tuesday, August 4, 2026, was undertaken in accordance with Articles 30, 31 and 32 of the GJA’s 2004 Constitution. The move is expected to enhance the Association’s capacity to promote professionalism, improve member welfare and effectively implement its strategic programmes.
According to a statement signed by the General Secretary, Dominic Hlordzi, the committees comprise seasoned journalists, media managers and experienced professionals whose expertise will support the National Executive in the discharge of its constitutional responsibilities while advancing the objectives of the Association.
Leading the Membership Vetting Committee is GJA President Albert Kwabena Dwumfour. Other members are veteran journalist Kissi Yeboah, formerly of the Ghana News Agency (GNA), Seth Eyiah, Editor-in-Chief of the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC), Peter Ankomah, Editor of the Daily Dispatch newspaper, and Nana Yaa Konadu, a presenter with Peace FM of the Despite Media Group.
The Professional Development Committee will be chaired by GJA Vice President Rebecca Ekpe. Members include former GJA General Secretary and Wisconsin International University College lecturer Kofi Yeboah, Cliff Ekufful, Assistant Editor of the Ghanaian Times, George Ramsey Benamba, Chief Editor of the Ghana News Agency, and Kweku Owusu Peprah, Head of Joy Brands at the Multimedia Group.
GJA Organising Secretary Suleiman Mustapha will chair the Social Affairs Committee, with Isaac Owusu Asare of GBC, former GJA Vice President Linda Asante Agyei, Isaac Nuamah Yeboah of the Daily Analyst newspaper, and Maame Efua Mensah, Editor at UTV, serving as members.
The International Relations Committee will be chaired by GJA General Secretary Dominic Hlordzi. It includes Mary Mensah, Foreign Editor of Graphic Communications Group Limited, freelance journalist Zambaga Rufai, Ken Sackey, Deputy News Editor of the Ghana News Agency, and Yaw Obeng Manu, Editor of The Publisher newspaper.
Meanwhile, the Finance and Resource Mobilisation Committee will be chaired by GJA Treasurer Bertha Badu Agyei. Its members are Charles Benoni Okine, Director of Corporate Affairs and External Relations at the Minerals Income Investment Fund (MIIF), former GJA Treasurer Audrey Dekalu, Nii Odartey Lamptey, Senior Manager at the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation, and Michael Ocquaye, Deputy News Editor at Graphic Communications Group Limited.
The National Executive expressed confidence that the wealth of experience, professionalism and diverse expertise of the committee members would significantly strengthen the work of the Association, deepen member engagement, uphold high professional standards and support the implementation of strategic initiatives for the benefit of journalists across the country.
The statement announced that the committees would be officially sworn into office on Monday, August 17, 2026, during the 77th Anniversary Lecture and Symposium of the Ghana Journalists Association at the British Council in Accra.
The GJA also expressed appreciation to all members who accepted the call to serve, describing their willingness to dedicate their time, knowledge and experience as a demonstration of commitment to the advancement of journalism and the welfare of media practitioners in Ghana.
The Association further reaffirmed its commitment to working closely with the committees to promote professionalism, safeguard press freedom, enhance the welfare of journalists and strengthen the GJA as Ghana’s foremost professional body for journalists.
