The Volta Regional Minister, James Gunu, has received and handed over relief items from the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) to Municipal and District Assemblies in the 12 districts affected by the recent floods in the Volta Region.
The relief items were presented by the Volta Regional Director of NADMO, Pascal Agbagba, as part of the Government’s emergency response aimed at supporting flood victims and alleviating the hardships caused by the disaster.
The brief ceremony was attended by the Member of Parliament for Ho Central, Richmond Edem Kpotosu; the Volta Regional Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mawutor Agbavitor; Municipal and District Chief Executives; and Municipal and District NADMO Directors.
Speaking during the presentation, Hon. James Gunu commended NADMO for its swift intervention and reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to ensuring that the relief items are distributed promptly, transparently and fairly to all affected persons across the region.
He noted that the Government remains committed to providing the necessary support to flood victims and helping affected communities recover from the devastating impact of the floods.
The Regional Minister also appealed to individuals, corporate bodies, faith-based organisations, non-governmental organisations and other stakeholders to complement the government’s efforts by donating relief items and other forms of assistance to support displaced families.
According to him, the magnitude of the destruction requires collective action and sustained support to enable affected communities to rebuild their lives and livelihoods.
Hon. Gunu expressed optimism that through solidarity and shared responsibility, the region would overcome the challenge and emerge stronger from the disaster.
Several communities across the Volta Region were recently inundated following heavy rains and flooding, leaving many residents displaced and causing significant damage to homes, farmlands and other properties.
