The family of the late Christopher Ahordo, a mobile money (MoMo) vendor who was murdered in Aflao in April 2025, has announced plans to stage a peaceful picketing exercise at the Ketu South Divisional Police Command, demanding updates on investigations into the case and accountability from the Ghana Police Service.
The planned demonstration is scheduled for June 10, 2026, at Tokor in the Ketu South Municipality of the Volta Region. It is expected to attract family members, sympathisers, and residents concerned about the progress of the case.
Mr Ahordo was reportedly attacked and killed on April 28, 2025, near the Diamond Cement area in Aflao, an incident that sparked widespread public outrage and renewed concerns about security in the municipality.
According to the family, several suspects were initially arrested in connection with the murder. However, the family alleged that the prime suspect, identified as Ali Taidu, later escaped from lawful custody, while other suspects were granted bail without being prosecuted.
The family expressed concern that more than a year after the incident, they have received little information regarding efforts to re-arrest the escaped suspect or the current status of investigations.
They recalled that during a press conference held on May 18, 2026, they issued a two-week ultimatum to the Ghana Police Service to provide updates and clarity on the case. According to the family, the deadline expired without any official response from the police.
The family stated that the lack of communication has deepened their grief and heightened concerns among residents about transparency and accountability in the handling of the matter.
They stated that the upcoming picketing exercise is intended to demand justice for the deceased, seek clarification on the circumstances surrounding the escape of the prime suspect, and call for accountability regarding decisions taken during the investigative process.
The protest is also expected to draw attention to what the family describes as growing insecurity and increasing incidents of violent crime in Aflao and the wider Ketu South Municipality.
Despite their frustrations, the family emphasised that the demonstration would be peaceful and conducted within the confines of the law. Participants are expected to carry placards and banners advocating justice, transparency, and improved public safety.
They further appealed to the Ghana Police Service to facilitate the exercise and provide adequate security to ensure public order throughout the event.
As of the time of filing this report, the Ghana Police Service had not publicly responded to the family’s latest concerns regarding the case.
