Ghanaian dancehall artiste Charles Nii Armah Mensah, popularly known as Shatta Wale, has made the much-anticipated Momofest concert free for fans in the Volta Region.
The artiste made the announcement when he addressed the media ahead of the concert, stating that the gesture was his way of giving back to his fans and the people of the region for their unwavering support and prayers throughout his career.
Shatta Wale said he was particularly excited to return to the Volta Region after about 10 to 12 years without performing in the region, describing it as his “motherland” and expressing his desire to make the upcoming concert accessible to as many fans as possible.
“I want to do this for my motherland. It is dear to me. I know it has been like 10 or 12 years since I have not been here to perform, and I just want to tell every fan in the Volta Region that at the show on Saturday, I am going to take all the cost for the fans,” he said.
According to him, the decision was influenced by the massive support he had received from fans across the region, particularly through social media platforms such as TikTok, Instagram, Facebook and X.
He said after learning that thousands of tickets had already been purchased, he decided to absorb the admission cost as a special gesture to his fans and the people of the region.
Shatta Wale, however, explained that, due to security considerations, fans would be required to demonstrate support for some of the brands and projects associated with the concert before gaining entry to the venue.
He encouraged fans to download the MTN MoMo application and indicated that displaying the application at the entrance would serve as a means of gaining access to the concert.
He also mentioned Waya and Shaxi among the platforms that fans could support as part of the entry arrangements. He explained that fans who downloaded Waya, which he said could facilitate communication in areas with poor network connectivity, or used Shaxi services could also qualify for entry.
The artiste stressed that the initiative was intended not only to enable more fans to attend the concert but also to promote and reward support for the brands and partners associated with the event.
He therefore urged fans attending the concert to show evidence of their support for the participating platforms, describing the arrangement as a measure aimed at enhancing security and helping organisers identify legitimate supporters.
Shatta Wale promised fans a memorable celebration, including performances of some of his songs that he said he had not performed in the region for many years.
He said Momofest would provide an opportunity for him to reconnect with his fans, celebrate music and give the people of the Volta Region a memorable experience in what he proudly described as his “motherland.”
