The Ministry of Health has announced the successful payment of two-month salary arrears owed to newly recruited nurses, reaffirming its commitment to supporting healthcare professionals across the country.
According to a press release issued on April 28, 2026, and signed by the Ministry’s spokesperson, Tony Goodman, the government has taken decisive steps to address outstanding payments. The statement further assured affected nurses that the next round of payments covering a three-month period from May to July 2026 will be made as previously scheduled.
The Ministry expressed appreciation to nurses and other stakeholders for their patience and cooperation during the period, emphasising its ongoing dedication to strengthening Ghana’s healthcare workforce to enhance service delivery nationwide.
Health workers encountering challenges or seeking clarification have been advised to contact the Human Resource for Health Development Directorate of the Ministry for prompt assistance.
In addition to addressing arrears, the Ministry revealed that plans are underway to recruit approximately 16,000 health workers in 2026 as part of the government’s broader strategy to absorb trained professionals into the health sector. So far, financial clearance has been secured for about 8,000 positions, with efforts ongoing to obtain approval for the remaining slots. The Ministry stressed that no recruitment will take place without the necessary financial backing.
The available clearances have been distributed across various health cadres to ensure a gradual and structured integration of personnel into the national health system.
Furthermore, the Ministry reiterated that its official recruitment portal remains the sole channel for all employment processes, a move aimed at ensuring transparency, fairness, and accountability. However, it acknowledged that due to the high volume of applications, some applicants have faced difficulties accessing the portal, leading to concerns and anxiety.
The Ministry assured the public that it is actively working to resolve these challenges and secure additional clearances to accommodate more qualified applicants.
The announcement is expected to bring relief to many health workers while reinforcing government efforts to improve healthcare delivery across the country.
