Sam George Hints at Arrest of Three More Fraud Suspects, Lauds Cyber Security Authority

Minister of Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations, Samuel Nartey George, has hinted that the Cyber Security Authority (CSA) will be arresting three more individuals involved in cyber fraud in the coming days.

Speaking to the media at the Ningo-Prampram Education Directorate for the Teachers Awards and Retirees Send-Off on December 12, 2025, Sam George commended the CSA for its role in the arrest of Abu Trica, who is alleged to have been involved in a romance scam.

He stressed that there is no peace in gaining success through cyber fraud, while emphasising the importance of education as a pathway to a successful and secure future.

According to the Minister, the upcoming arrests are part of the CSA’s ongoing clampdown on cyber-related crimes in the country.

“You realise that just yesterday, one of my agencies, the Cyber Security Authority, picked up an individual who is supposed to be successful. There’s no peace with that kind of success. And there are three more we’re picking up in the next few days because we are cracking down on cybercrime.

“Cybercrime does not pay, but education is the only thing nobody can take away from you. They can take all you have, they can take your cars, your houses away from you, but what you know and what you’ve learned cannot be taken away from you,” he said.

On December 11, 2025, Frederick Kumi, a 31-year-old Ghanaian from Swedru, was arrested for his alleged involvement in an $8 million romance scam targeting elderly victims in the United States.

According to the indictment, Abu Trica was part of a criminal network that, since 2023, used Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology to create fake identities and engage victims in online romantic relationships.

The investigation was conducted by the FBI Cleveland Division and is being prosecuted by Assistant US Attorney Brian M McDonough for the Northern District of Ohio.

Ghanaian agencies that assisted in the case include the Attorney General’s Office, Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO), Ghana Police Service, Ghana Cyber Security Authority, Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC), and the National Intelligence Bureau, among others.

In the early hours of December 12, 2025, Minister Sam George issued a statement on X commending the Cyber Security Authority for the successful operation.

He praised the team for their dedication and effectiveness, noting that such actions are crucial for protecting Ghanaians and safeguarding the country’s international reputation.
