A newborn baby girl has suffered a deep cut near her ear during a cesarean section at the Jasikan District Hospital in the Oti Region. The incident occurred on November 8, 2025, and the baby was discharged on November 10, 2025, without the parents being informed about the injury.
According to sources close to newsalertgh, the mother, Charity Kugbe, underwent a cesarean section at the hospital, and the baby was delivered by a medical doctor. However, neither the doctor nor the attending medical staff informed the family about any complications or injuries sustained by the baby during the procedure.
It wasn’t until the family returned home and noticed a deep wound on the side of the newborn’s head that they realised something was wrong. The baby was immediately rushed to Dodi Papase for further treatment and is currently receiving medical attention.
The family is now demanding answers and accountability from the hospital authorities, citing negligence and a breach of trust. They are calling for an investigation into the incident to determine how the injury occurred and why they were not informed before being discharged.
The Jasikan District Hospital has yet to issue an official statement regarding the incident, despite growing concerns and calls for clarification from the family and the public.
This incident has raised concerns about the quality of maternal and newborn care in Ghana, particularly in light of the country’s efforts to reduce neonatal mortality and improve healthcare outcomes for mothers and babies.
The case serves as a stark reminder of the importance of prioritising maternal and newborn health and ensuring that healthcare providers are held accountable for their actions.
