Cape Coast is set to welcome royalty as His Majesty Ogiame Atuwatse III, the Olu of Warri, and Her Majesty Olori Atuwatse III, Queen Consort of the Warri Kingdom, arrive as Special Guests of Honour for the 2025 Oguaa Fetu Afahye.
Their presence at the revered festival symbolises more than celebration but a reminder that Africa is not merely a continent of subjects, but of kings and queens whose institutions remain living pillars of identity and continuity.
From the oil-rich waters of Warri to the ancestral shores of Cape Coast, the journey of the Olu and Olori represents a bridge between kingdoms. It affirms heritage, strengthens cultural bonds, and underscores that kingship is not relic or performance, but a strategy for preserving African identity and shaping the future.
The Oguaa Fetu Afahye, one of Africa’s most distinguished festivals, provides the sacred stage for this encounter. Here, heritage becomes continuity and kingship becomes covenant—between memory and destiny.
Royal Message to Cape Coast
In a message ahead of the gathering, the Warri Royal Family expressed their excitement about the visit:
“It is a joy to journey from the oil-rich waters of Warri to the ancestral shores of Cape Coast. Here, where history breathes, we look forward to standing with the people of this region not as guests but as allies. To experience their great culture and heritage, we look forward to cultural exchange, trade, and shared prosperity between the Warri Kingdom and Cape Coast that will snowball to the Africa we want.”
