The Pope John Old Boys Association (POJOBA) has announced that it will honour the memory of its late member, Daasebre Dr. Edward Kofi Omane Boamah, with a solemn Vigil Mass on Thursday, August 14, 2025.
Dr. Omane Boamah, the Minister of Defence and an old student of Pope John Senior High School, tragically lost his life alongside seven others in the August 6 helicopter crash at Adansi Akrofuom, in the Ashanti Region.
In a statement signed by National President Isaac Aboagye Duah, the association said the service will be held jointly with the family of Dr. Omane Boamah and that of Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala, who also lost his life in the crash.
“This update supersedes our earlier announcement on the Requiem Mass,” the statement read, adding that “following discussions with the family, the previously announced Requiem Mass has been replaced with a Vigil Mass.”
The updated programme will begin with a 5:00 pm to 5:30 pm procession from Christ the King to Jubilee House to lay wreaths, followed at 6:00 pm by hymns, tributes, and biographies. Members are expected to be seated by 5:45 pm. The Holy Mass will commence promptly at 7:30 pm at the Christ the King Catholic Church in Accra.
The association urged members to attend in large numbers.
“We urge all members to attend in solidarity as we stand with the bereaved families in prayer, remembrance, and honour of the lives and legacies of these two remarkable individuals,” portions of the statement read.
POJOBA further indicated that the memorial service may be replicated across its chapters nationwide.
“This solemn event may also be repeated in other POJOBA Chapters across the country. Further updates will be communicated in due course. We encourage all members, friends, and well-wishers to join us in prayer and solidarity as we honour the life and legacy of our dear brother.”
