The Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) has successfully concluded its highly anticipated National Executive Elections, ushering in a new leadership to steer the affairs of the Association for the next term. The elections, which took place on June 30, 2025, witnessed keen contests across various national portfolios, with incumbent President Albert Kwabena Dwumfour securing a decisive re-election.
Mr. Dwumfour, who is also the Managing Editor of the Daily Analyst, won a commanding 64.49% of the total valid votes cast, defeating his challenger Charles Yao Mawusi, who polled 245 votes, representing 35.51%.
In the race for Vice President, Rebecca Ekpe emerged victorious with 414 votes, representing 60.35%, against her contender Mary Mensah, who secured 272 votes (39.65%).
The position of General Secretary also saw a clear winner, as Dominic Hlordzi polled 443 votes (64.20%) to defeat Akwasi Agyeman, who garnered 247 votes (35.80%).
For the Organising Secretary role, Suleiman Mustapha emerged triumphant with 365 votes (53.21%), edging out Maxwell Kudekor, who received 321 votes (46.79%).
In the Public Affairs contest, Zadok Kwame Gyesi won convincingly with 431 votes (63.01%), defeating Caesar Abagali, who secured 253 votes (36.99%).
Meanwhile, in the race for the Treasurer position, Bertha Badu-Agyei clinched victory with 401 votes (58.28%), beating Theodora A. Amedetor Yakanou, who polled 287 votes (41.72%).
A total of 690 votes were cast in the presidential and general secretary categories, while 686 and 684 votes were recorded respectively for the vice presidential and other portfolio races, indicating a strong turnout by GJA members across the country.
The election was conducted peacefully and transparently, reflecting the Association’s commitment to democratic principles and accountability. The newly elected national executives are expected to be sworn in soon, after which they will begin implementing their respective visions and mandates aimed at advancing press freedom, member welfare, and professional standards in Ghana’s media space.
