The Minister for Communication, Digital Technology, and Innovations, Samuel Nartey George, has declared Ghana’s readiness to take the global stage and showcase its digital progress and the country’s thriving ICT sector, as he officially launched the country’s participation in the highly anticipated Osaka Expo 2025.
Under the theme “Designing Future Society for Our Lives”, the Expo, which opened on April 13, runs until October 13, 2025.
Speaking at the launch of Ghana’s participation in the Osaka Expo 2025, Sam George noted that a key highlight will be “Ghana Day” on September 11 — a celebration of the nation’s growing digital credentials and rapidly evolving ICT sector.
“Our participation will be robust and impactful. We’re ready to dazzle the world with the depth of Ghanaian innovation, from fintech and e-governance to digital health and smart solutions. We will host an exhibition of cutting-edge projects and services, showcasing Ghana’s ICT achievements to a global audience. An ICT Business Forum will bring together industry leaders to discuss trends, challenges, and opportunities, while B2B sessions will connect Ghanaian institutions with Japanese counterparts, fostering dialogue and paving the way for strategic alliances. These initiatives will culminate in the Ghana Day Celebration on September 11, where we will proudly celebrate our nation’s digital progress,” he noted.
Beyond the Expo, the Minister hinted at plans to deepen Ghana-Japan bilateral relations through a forthcoming Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) focusing on digital infrastructure development, cybersecurity, and knowledge transfer.
“We look forward to leveraging Japan’s deep expertise to build local capacity and further expand our digital ecosystem,” he noted.
Representing the Japanese Embassy, Deputy Chargé d’Affaires Naoki Mitori lauded Ghana’s strong ICT agenda and reaffirmed Japan’s commitment to supporting the country’s tech aspirations.
Mr. Mitori described the Osaka Expo as a landmark moment for Ghana-Japan cooperation, revealing that over five million visitors have already participated in the Expo. He highlighted two key upcoming engagements: the Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD) in August and the much-anticipated Ghana Day at the Expo.
