The Volta Regional Police Command, in a swift and coordinated operation, have arrested four suspects believed to be involved in the brutal murder of a mobile money vendor in Aflao. The suspects, apprehended between the hours of 12:00 noon and 2:00 a.m. on May 10, 2025, were taken into custody following a joint intelligence-led operation.
The successful crackdown was carried out by the Regional Police Intelligence Department (RPID) in collaboration with the Police SWAT Unit, the Operation Motherland Taskforce, and ‘ACTION NOW’ a local community watch committee in Aflao.
The suspects have been identified as Michael Sewornu (34), Korku Agboada (43), Atsu Agbagla (36), and Utsuku Onyeso (22), a Nigerian national. All four are currently in police custody and are assisting with ongoing investigations.
The arrests are in connection with the April 28, 2025, armed robbery and killing of 38-year-old Christopher Ahordo, a mobile money vendor. The incident occurred at approximately 6:15 p.m. at Gbagblakope, near the Diamond Cement factory in Aflao. According to reports, five unidentified robbers attacked Mr. Ahordo and shot him before fleeing with a bag believed to contain cash. The victim died at the scene.
The suspects are expected to be arraigned before the court today, Tuesday, May 13, 2025.
In a press statement by DSP Felix Danku of the Public Affairs Unit commended the public for its continued support and urged residents to remain vigilant and security-conscious. They also encouraged citizens to provide timely and credible information that could assist in combating crime across the region.
