Ghanaian actress-turned-politician, Ebi Bright, has officially assumed office as the Metropolitan Chief Executive (MCE) of the Tema Metropolitan Assembly.
At a ceremony held on Friday, May 9, and officiated by the Greater Accra Regional Minister, the Tema Central 2024 parliamentary candidate for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) was sworn into office after receiving overwhelming support from assembly members—28 votes in favour and just 3 against.
Her confirmation makes her the first female mayor in the history of Tema, a feat she described as a call to service and transformation.
“I’m profoundly grateful to H.E. John Dramani Mahama for the confidence he has reposed in me,” she said. “And to the Honourable Assembly Members and government appointees, thank you for your endorsement.”
While her nomination stirred mixed reactions among some residents, particularly regarding her status as a non-indigene of Tema, Ebi Bright used her maiden address to focus on unity and vision.
“It is my mission to lead Tema into a bold new chapter—one defined by purpose, service, and love,” she declared. “My vision is to transform Tema into a sustainable, inclusive, and dynamic urban hub where industrial revival is thriving through a 24-hour economy.”
The new MCE also pledged her full commitment to the 24-hour economy initiative championed by President Mahama, emphasizing her goal of reshaping Tema into a modern industrial and social powerhouse.
