President John Mahama has established a Constitutional Review Committee as part of his commitment to advancing Ghana’s constitutional governance.
The committee, comprising esteemed experts and professionals, will review the 1992 Constitution and propose amendments aimed at strengthening democratic principles and addressing governance challenges.
The committee is chaired by Prof. H. Kwasi Prempeh and includes the following members:
- Justice Sophia Adinyirah
- Prof. Kwame Karikari
- Mrs. Charlotte Osei
- Dr. Godwin Djokoto
- Ibrahim Tanko Amidu
- Dr. Esi Ansah
- Dr. Rainer Akumperigeya (Secretary)
A statement issued on January 19, by Acting Spokesperson to the President, Felix Ofosu Kwakye, said the mandate of the Committee includes identifying gaps in the implementation of previous constitutional reviews, particularly the 2010 Constitution Review Commission and the 2023 Constitution Review Consultative Committee.
The committee is also expected to engage stakeholders nationwide to gather input and provide actionable recommendations for amendments.
The committee has been given five months to complete its work and submit its report for government consideration.
