In an impressive display of academic prowess, girls from basic schools in the Mfantseman Municipality swept the top awards at the 6th edition of the Kobbah Acquah Memorial Reading Competition held in Anomabo.
Ms Emmanuella Mensah of Amissakurom Akroful Catholic M/A Basic School emerged as the overall winner with 99 points. She was closely followed by Ms. Mary Afful of Anomabo Catholic Basic School “B” and Ms. Spendilove Amoah of Ekurabadze Catholic Basic School, who placed as first and second runners-up with 98 points and 95 points, respectively.
The competition, held on Friday, saw the three female finalists exhibit exceptional reading skills, earning them certificates, books, pens, medals of merit, and other prizes.
Speaking on the theme “Reading: A Journey of Discovery,” Mr. Spencer Essiam, a deputy director of education at the Mfantseman Education Directorate, emphasized the importance of reading in childhood development. He encouraged parents and teachers to provide young learners with access to books and to motivate them to read regularly.
Mrs. Juliana Atsu, Yamoransa Circuit School Improvement Support Officer (SISO), speaking on behalf of Ms. Edwina Gladys Thompson Donkoh, Deputy Director in charge of Supervision at the Mfantseman Education Directorate, commended the participants for their excellent reading habits and praised their teachers for their hard work. She urged them to continue striving for excellence in their academic pursuits.
The Kobbah Acquah Foundation (KoAF) and the Anomabo chapter of the Boys and Girls Club of Ghana (BGCG), who sponsored and facilitated the event, were commended for their unwavering support for education in the municipality.
