The Electoral Commission (EC) has commenced the nationwide Special Voting exercise today, December 2, 2024. This exercise allows election officials, security personnel, and media practitioners to cast their ballots ahead of the December 7 general elections.
Initially planned for 328 centres, the exercise in the Western and Eastern Regions has been rescheduled to Thursday, December 5, 2024, following a recall and reprinting of ballot papers.
A total of 131,478 eligible voters, representing 0.007% of the total voter population of 18.7 million, are expected to participate in today’s polls, which will run from 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
Ahead of the Special voting exercise, EC Chairperson Jean Mensa assured the public of the Commission’s preparedness to deliver transparent, credible, and peaceful elections. However, she clarified that security personnel and journalists who did not apply for Special Voting will only be eligible to vote during the general elections on December 7.
At each Constituency Collation Centre, the Returning Officer will separately record these results on the Presidential and Parliamentary Election Results Collation Forms before merging them with the overall tally from all polling stations.
The EC has instructed Presiding Officers not to count Special Voting ballots today to maintain uniformity in the collation process.
