The Regional Advisory Information and Network Systems (RAINS) recently hosted a delegation from the GLFx Chapter in Dowa, Malawi, for a four-day exchange visit aimed at fostering collaboration and knowledge-sharing.
The program featured workshops and field engagements with local communities in Northern Ghana, allowing participants to discuss and partake in hands-on activities within two key communities—Bidima and Kpachelo—where RAINS is implementing sustainability and livelihood projects.
In Bidima, the GLFx team met with women engaged in a thriving beekeeping enterprise. The visit included discussions on sustainable beekeeping practices, effective hive management, and strategies for accessing markets for honey and other bee-related products. The women beekeepers shared their success stories, while the visiting team raised questions about the sector’s challenges and opportunities.
In Kpachelo, the delegation interacted with local farmers to learn about crops cultivated in the region and traditional farming methods. Conversations focused on enhancing productivity through sustainable agricultural practices to help farmers adapt to climate variability, ultimately improving their yields.
This exchange is viewed as a significant step in strengthening the partnership between RAINS and the GLFx Chapter from Dowa. Both organizations reaffirmed their commitment to sustainable development and community empowerment through knowledge-sharing.
Executive Director of RAINS, Hardy Tijani said the visit afforded the two organizations the opportunity to address environmental conservation and livelihood sustainability.
“We are delighted to have hosted our partners from the GLFx Chapter in Dowa. This visit marks a new chapter in our collaborative efforts to address environmental conservation and livelihood sustainability,” he noted.
The partnership is expected to contribute to shared knowledge on environmental conservation, sustainable livelihoods, and community resilience. RAINS, known for its leadership in promoting initiatives that uplift local livelihoods, continues to foster partnerships to advance community-driven solutions for sustainable development.
