Minority Chief Whip Kwame Governs Agbodza has taken Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia to the cleaners for failing to substantiate claims of 10,800 kilometres of new roads constructed.
According to the Adaklu MP, the current government’s emphasis on routine maintenance and rehabilitation of existing roads, rather than the construction of new ones, is misleading and marks a significant decline in infrastructural progress compared to the previous administration.
In a statement, Agbodza said the claims of constructing 10,800 kilometres of new roads have proven to be unfounded.
He noted that the government’s recent focus on routine maintenance and rehabilitation work over new road construction is a clear attempt to mask their failure to deliver on their promises.
He contrasted this with the achievements of former President John Mahama, noting that his administration made substantial road development strides with fewer resources.
“Under President Mahama, despite the limited budget of approximately GHS 50 billion for the 2016 fiscal year, the road infrastructure delivered was far superior. For comparison, the 2017 budget detailed 10,723.49 kilometres of trunk roads, 16,183 kilometres of feeder roads, and 9,384 kilometres of urban roads,” Agbodza noted.
The Minority Chief Whip’s criticism comes in the wake of the NPP’s election 2024 manifesto launch on Sunday, August 18, during which government officials, including the Vice President, touted the current administration’s road construction achievements as unprecedented.
