Underfire Napo Justifies ‘Controversial’ Comments That Nkrumah Nowhere Near Akufo-Addo’s Achievements

The underfire running mate of the NPP flagbearer, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, has justified his controversial comments that Ghana’s first President, Osagyefo Dr Kwame Nkrumah, comes nowhere near President Akufo-Addo’s achievements.

According to Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, no President since Independence has achieved more than President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

During his unveiling by the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) in Kumasi on Tuesday, the Manhyia South MP, popularly known as NAPO, boldly declared that President Akufo-Addo’s accomplishments surpass those of Dr. Kwame Nkrumah.

These comments have generated widespread controversy, with a section of the populace calling on him to retract and apologize for the comparison.

Less than 24 hours after sparking the controversy, NAPO insists he stands by his words.

During a courtesy call on the Omanhene of Wassa Amenfi Traditional Area and President of the Western Regional House of Chiefs, Tetrete Okuamoah Sekyim II, he reiterated his stance and dismissed claims he’s arrogant saying he speaks the truth.

NAPO noted that in Ghana, politicians who are honest are often labelled as disrespectful, while those who lie are celebrated.

“For us politicians, we do our politics every four years. Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, you have supported him to do what he can do in Ghana. Even when I said it they have taken it wrongly. I say ever since independence, from 1957, from Kwame Nkrumah till today, no government has worked harder than Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.”

“But the politics we do, when you speak the truth, they say you are disrespectful. When you lie then you are praised. I am your child I am your grandson. You did not raise me with lies.”
