In Ghana, Those Who Speak the Truth Are Labelled Disrespectful; Those Who Lie Are Praised – Napo Insists He’s Not Arrogant

Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, the running mate of NPP flagbearer Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has denied claims that he is an arrogant politician.

According to him, in Ghanaian politics, those who speak the truth are often labelled disrespectful, while those who lie are praised.

Napo, who also serves as the Manhyia South MP, has faced accusations of arrogance from some members of the public who perceive certain statements of his as disrespectful. However, his supporters vehemently dispute these claims.

The controversy resurfaced during his unveiling ceremony as Dr. Bawumia’s running mate on Tuesday, July 9, 2024.

Dr. Opoku Prempeh asserted during his speech at the event that no Ghanaian president has matched President Akufo-Addo’s achievements. This recognition of Akufo-Addo has sparked controversy, with various political factions demanding a retraction and apology for comparing the current president with Ghana’s first president, Osagyefo Dr Kwame Nkrumah.

Less than 24 hours after making these controversial claims, the Energy Minister insisted that there is no greater truth than Akufo-Addo being the most successful president in terms of development since independence.

During a courtesy call on the Omanhene of Wassa Amenfi Traditional Area and President of the Western Regional House of Chiefs, Tetrete Okuamoah Sekyim II, on Wednesday, July 10, 2024, Napo reiterated his assertion that not even Dr. Kwame Nkrumah matches Akufo-Addo’s developmental achievements.

“Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, you have supported him to do what he can do in Ghana. Even when I said it, they have misunderstood me. I maintain that since independence, from 1957, from Kwame Nkrumah till today, no government has worked harder than Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.”

He also dismissed claims that he is arrogant arguing that he only speaks the truth.

NAPO said politicians who speak the truth are always tagged as disrespectful while those who lie are praised.

“For us politicians, we do our politics every four years. But the politics we do, when you speak the truth, they say you are disrespectful. When you lie then you are praised. I am your child I am your grandson. You did not raise me with lies.”
