Ato Forson trial: Richard Jakpa to be cross-examined by Attorney General today

Businessman Richard Jakpa is slated for cross-examination today, Tuesday, June 18, in the ongoing ambulance purchase trial involving the Minority Leader, Dr Cassiel Ato Forson. The Attorney General (AG) is expected to question Jakpa, though it’s uncertain if Godfred Dame will personally conduct the examination.

Last Thursday, June 13, lawyers representing Dr. Ato Forson, the first accused in the case, completed their cross-examination. Justice Afia Serwah Asare-Botwe, an additional High Court judge overseeing the trial, then called upon the Prosecution to proceed following the conclusion of the cross-examination by Dr Cassiel Ato Forson’s legal team, led by Dr Abdul Basit Aziz Bamba.

The court had previously admitted an audio recording into evidence capturing a conversation between Godfred Dame and Richard Jakpa, who is also accused in the case. Both Jakpa and Dr Ato Forson, the current Minority Leader in Parliament, face charges of allegedly causing financial loss to the state totalling 2.37 million euros through the procurement of ambulances. Both have pleaded not guilty.

The cross-examination of Jakpa is expected to be rigorous and is anticipated to last some five hours, adhering to the Case Management Completion plan.
