Togbega Gabusu VII, the Paramount Chief of the Gbi Traditional Area, has urged citizens of the Gbi State to commit to preserving the environment to ensure a sustainable future. The traditional ruler made the call at St. Theresa College of Education, where the Hohoe Municipality held the 2024 edition of Green Ghana Day.
Togbega Gabusu emphasized the need for citizens to take action against climate change, deforestation, and environmental degradation. He highlighted the significance of trees in providing oxygen, shelter, and sustaining communities.
“This tree-planting initiative symbolizes our dedication to protecting our natural resources, promoting eco-friendly practices, preserving our cultural heritage, and building a brighter future for generations to come.”

The tree-planting initiative, introduced in 2021, is an aggressive national afforestation and reforestation program aimed at restoring lost forest cover and contributing to the global effort to mitigate climate change. The 2024 Green Ghana theme, “Growing for a Greener Tomorrow,” targets planting 10 million trees this year.

Francis Fiakpui, the Municipal Chief Executive for Hohoe, stated that the municipality aims to plant around 30,000 trees this year as part of efforts to make Hohoe green. He encouraged citizens to visit the offices of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) and the municipal office for seedlings to plant. The Municipal Chief Executive urged all citizens to regularly water and nurture the seedlings for optimal growth.
