Several areas in the capital city, Accra experienced flooding following the torrential downpour on Wednesday, May 22, 2024, which lasted several hours.
The heavy rains and attendant storm rainfall disrupted vehicular traffic along the Kaneshie to Mallam stretch of the Kasoa Highway, the Central Business District, and Odawna, among other locations.
Roads near the Fiesta Royale Hotel at Dzorwulu Junction, Spanner-Shangrila, and other areas were left unmotorable as a result of the floods.
Many commuters chose to park their cars and wait for the rain to subside, while others navigated carefully through the floodwaters that covered large portions of the roads.
In a related incident, two young men narrowly escaped death at Teshie near Accra when the entire roofing of a building under construction was blown off by strong winds and trapped them just before midday on Wednesday. The strong winds that preceded the downpour are being blamed for the incident.
