Loyalists of Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia have taken over the government of President Akufo-Addo.
The Veep who was elected NPP flagbearer in 2024 finally took over the leadership role of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) from President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo after 16 years of tenure.
The big Valentine’s gift which came in the form of a Ministerial reshuffle saw close associates of the NPP 2024 Presidential candidate being rewarded juicy portfolios.
Ken Ofori-Atta, the Minister of Finance who had survived numerous calls and moves to yank him from his position, couldn’t survive this time round, as he was axed for Karaga MP and Minister of State at the Finance Ministry, Dr Mohammed Amin Adam.
Since October 2022, President Akufo-Addo has consistently defended his cousin stating there was no basis for his dismissal and praising his performance. Despite NPP MPs joining the calls for Ofori-Atta to resign, the President failed to do the needful.
Another Bawumia darling girl and current Deputy Information Minister, Fatimatu Abubakar has been elevated to the position of substantive Minister and replaces Kojo Oppong Nkrumah who has been reassigned to the Works and Housing Ministry.
