The men behind the Facebook page “Tell it Dads” on Thursday, November 30, 2023, demonstrated the power of collective giving by presenting a substantial cash donation of GHS 12,000 to Citi FM/TV, to support communities and individuals affected by floods resulting from the Akosombo Dam spillage.
The “Tell it Dads” Facebook page, an exclusive community of men, showcased the strength of their camaraderie and commitment to making a positive impact on society. On Thursday, a representative of the group handed over the generous sum at the premises of Citi FM.

The initiative, spearheaded by the members of “Tell it Dads,” saw a remarkable outpouring of support from the male community, showcasing the ability of united individuals to make a meaningful difference in the lives of those affected by the Akosombo Dam spillage.
The Akosombo Dam, a source of hydroelectric power for Ghana with a colossal 150 billion cubic meters storage capacity, now faces unprecedented challenges brought about by the relentless impacts of climate change. The dam, designed to operate at a maximum level of 276 feet, has been compelled to initiate a spillage exercise due to the surge in rainfall, surpassing its operational limits.

Commencing on September 15, the spillage, initially at a discharge rate of 183,000 cubic feet per second (cfs/day), saw an escalation on October 9 in response to the persistent rise in water levels, posing a tangible risk of dam failure.
The repercussions on downstream communities, particularly the indigenous people along the Volta River, have been nothing short of devastating.
Among these communities, Mepe stands out as the hardest-hit, with thousands of residents currently displaced.
