Alan’s resignation: Many NPP supporters have resigned in their hearts and waiting to walk away – Boakye Agyarko

Boakye Agyarko, a former presidential aspirant of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), has called for introspection within the party in response to Alan Kyerematen’s resignation.

Agyarko emphasized that Kyerematen’s departure should be seen as a signal for the party to reflect rather than exhibit triumphalist arrogance.

In a statement, Agyarko stated, “The unfortunate departure of Alan Kyerematen from our ranks must serve a necessary and sufficient notice to us all and lead us to a time of deep introspection rather than a time for gloating or the display of triumphalist arrogance.”

The former Energy Minister pointed out that historical events within the NPP have typically had negative consequences since its inception in 1951, casting a lasting shadow on the party’s electoral fortunes.

Agyarko suggested that there may be many party members who harbour similar sentiments in their hearts but have not openly expressed them.

“At least, my brother Kyerematen has put his thoughts and feelings on paper for all to appreciate. How about the many who have similar and maybe more petulant sentiments in their hearts but are not openly expressing the same? There are many in our party today who have, out of dismay, resigned in their hearts and are only waiting to walk away from us at the ballot box.”

Agyarko called for efforts to mend divisions and soothe wounded sentiments within the party.

“Now is the time to smoothen ruffled feathers and assuage wounded sentiments across the length and breadth of our party. Now is the time to examine ourselves if indeed we are true and faithful to the tenets and values of the UP tradition or if we have metamorphosed into an ugly shadow of what we should be. These must become the urgent task ahead of us,” he stated.
