The Member of Parliament for Ningo-Prampram, Samuel Nartey George, has responded to a petition challenging the appointment of Dr. Edward Kofi Omane Boamah as Director of Elections and IT of the largest opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC). Delanyo Agbe, the petitioner, described himself as a concerned NDC supporter and social activist deeply invested in the party’s progress.
Agbe’s petition raised concerns about Dr. Omane Boamah’s qualifications, citing his lack of expertise in information technology (IT) and potential risks to the party’s credibility. He also pointed to Omane Boamah’s perceived low engagement with youth, emphasizing the significance of IT and election management in modern political campaigning.
“Election management and ICT are critical components of modern political campaigning.”
“Dr. Omane Boamah’s medical background, while noteworthy, does not seem to align with the intricate technicalities of information and communication technology and the complexities of electoral processes,” portions of Agbe’s petition read.
In his counter-petition, Sam George staunchly defended Dr. Omane Boamah’s credentials and credibility. He highlighted the importance of the appointment, emphasizing its significance for the NDC’s chances in the upcoming 2024 elections.
The NDC MP also praised Omane Boamah’s track record, citing his role as an ICT leader and his previous positions within the party, such as Deputy Campaign Coordinator for the successful 2012 Presidential and Parliamentary Elections and Secretary to the successful 2011 Get Atta Mills Elected (GAME) campaign team.
“… dismiss the said petition with alacrity as it has the propensity to shift the focus of the appointee from the solemn task we have handed him. Dr. Edward Kofi Omane Boamah is an asset to our great tradition, and we must use this as an example that our Party appreciates the sacrifice of young people and truly believes in their abilities to deliver whenever the need arises.”
“I am a young man deeply connected to the ‘streets of Ghana’, and I can assure you that the appointee is the best choice at this given time,” he added.
Mr. George described Dr. Omane Boamah as loyal, dedicated, focused, analytical, and practical, with exceptional attention to detail. He also vouched for Omane Boamah’s technical abilities and impeccable record.
“He is a pragmatic perfectionist and is meticulously intentional and thorough. His attention to fine details is rare.”
“His technical ability is without doubt, and his record is without blemish.”
“Moreover, he has quickly set the entire party structures in readiness, exemplified by his management of the ongoing Limited Registration Exercise by the Electoral Commission.”
Sam George urged the Council of Elders to dismiss the petition promptly, warning against its potential to divert Omane Boamah’s focus from his critical role. He highlighted Dr. Omane Boamah as an asset to the NDC tradition, emphasizing the party’s support for young, capable individuals like him.
George, as a young and well-connected member, expressed confidence that Omane Boamah was the best choice for the party at this juncture, and he called for unity within the NDC to achieve their common goals.
