The controversy surrounding the leaked audio tape allegedly revealing a plot to remove the current Inspector General of Police (IGP), George Akuffo Dampare, took a surprising turn today.
COP George Mensah, a prominent figure implicated in the alleged plot, has made a startling claim that the IGP himself orchestrated the recording of the leaked tape and possesses the original copy.
COP Mensah, who serves as the Director General of technical at the Ghana Police Service, made this assertion during his appearance before the ad-hoc parliamentary committee tasked with investigating the matter on Friday, September 1, 2023.
In a dramatic twist, COP Mensah expressed his belief that the audio recording currently before the parliamentary committee has been heavily doctored.
When committee members pressed him to reveal the whereabouts of the supposed original copy of the audio, he pointedly stated that they should obtain it from Dr. Dampare, as he has the original recording.
“My intel suggests that what was used to tape the conversation was done by the current IGP. He sent some people to do it and after which he went for it and so the tape, from my intel is with the IGP, and he caused it to be leaked so if this committee wants the tape, then it should contact the IGP for it.”
The third witness, Supt George Asare is expected to take the stand on Monday.
