The Electoral Commission (EC) has unveiled plans for an upcoming voters’ registration exercise targeted at individuals who have recently turned 18 years old.
The registration process is set to take place from Tuesday, September 12, to Monday, October 2, 2023, across all 268 district offices nationwide.
This was made known during a press briefing in Accra dubbed ‘Let the Citizen Know’.
The EC revealed a charge of GHC10 for the replacement of voter ID cards.
Jean Mensa, the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission, addressed the media, shedding light on the purpose and scope of the upcoming exercise.
“The voter’s registration exercise will afford Ghanaians who have attained the age of 18 years, since the last registration of 2020 and others who are more than 18 years, but for various reasons couldn’t register during the 2020 registration exercise.”
In addition to the voter registration exercise, Jean Mensa announced the scheduling of the District Level Assembly Elections (DLE) for Tuesday, December 19, 2023.
These elections are poised to take place in 6,272 electoral areas across various districts, representing a critical opportunity for local representation and civic participation.
“The EC will embark on voter registration in all 268 district offices of the Commission. The exercise will be held from September 12 to October 2.”
However, it was noted that Nkoranza North and South in the Bono region will be exceptions to the upcoming elections.
