Northern Sector: Star Assurance Staff coached on Emotional Intelligence

A two-day extensively packed training on Emotional Intelligence has been held for staff of Star Assurance Company in the Northern Sector of the country.

It was facilitated by Addison International Center for Emotional Intelligence (AICEI) led by Ghana’s first internationally certified Emotional Intelligence Master Coach, James Kwesi Addison.

Its main objective, according to management, was to strengthen the emotional intelligence capacity of staff so that they would remain driven and motivated individuals.

This was deemed to ensure that they would be emotionally intelligent enough to connect peacefully with themselves and clients to drive business efficiently, peacefully and successfully.

Speaking at the end of the two-day training session, the Northern Sector Head of Technical Operations of the company, Mr Eldon Moses Asamoah Otu described the event as highly beneficial to the company.

According to him, the training practically made them understand how to identify emotional dynamics and navigate emotional needs within challenging organisational situations.

This, he said, would prudently help them to build and maintain emotional safety at the workplace and significantly contribute to meeting the expectations of their customers.

As part of his coaching, the main facilitator, Mr James Kwesi Addison admitted that dealing with emotionally charged and angry customers was always not just challenging but also stressful.

He, however, indicated that by applying emotional intelligence and professionalism, one could turn a negative situation into a positive one and improve customer satisfaction and loyalty.

Reactions by participants.

Some of the participants expressed their gratitude to the management of the company for coming up with such an important event.

Others indicated that the programme was timely given the recent issues of spousal murder cases among other emotional related issues that have been gaining notoriety in the country.

It was further agreed that lack of emotional intelligence was a major contributory factor to the increase in staff stress levels which has a negative impact on their health and well-being.

Consequentially, high-stress levels also affected productivity.

The Northern Sector comprises the staff of Kumasi Main, Suame, Denyame, Sunyani, Techiman, and Tamale.
