Ken Agyapong: NPP flagbearer aspirant publicly apologizes to “wonderful” Mahama for unfair attacks

A flagbearer aspirant of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kennedy Ohene Agyapong has made a public apology to former President John Dramani Mahama, acknowledging what he describes as his own “unfairness” towards the former leader.

In an interview on Starr FM’s Starr Chat program on October 5, 2023, the Member of Parliament for Assin Central expressed remorse for his previous criticisms and attacks on President Mahama during his tenure in office. Agyapong admitted that despite his relentless verbal assaults, Mahama had maintained a gentlemanly approach to their relationship.

“The way he has handled me and how I have spoken harshly to John Mahama, I think have not been fair to Mahama. He is such a wonderful man,” he said.

In a candid moment on the show, Agyapong shared how Mahama’s wife, former First Lady Lordina Mahama, had consistently spoken highly of him. Agyapong even claimed that, in a hypothetical scenario where Mahama was not in the picture, Lordina would have considered him as a potential spouse.

“I apologize, I am a human being. I think if I recount my relationship with him and all that I want to say I am sorry,” he stated.

The outspoken MP gained notoriety for his direct insults and allegations of massive corruption against both Mahama and his brother, Ibrahim.

He played a prominent role as a critic of Mahama’s administration and was actively involved in the NPP’s efforts leading up to the 2016 elections, which ultimately resulted in Mahama’s electoral defeat—a historic moment as Mahama became the first sitting president to fail in his re-election bid.
