John Abdulai Jinapor: Yapei-Kusawgu MP Appeals For Support For Buipe Flood Victims

The Member of Parliament for the Yapei-Kusawgu Constituency, John Abdulai Jinapor has appealed to the government and NADMO for urgent relief to the victims of the floods which had displaced hundreds in the Buipe township of the Central Gonja District of the Savannah Region.

The severe rainstorm which hit the Buipe Township in the Central Gonja District last week was one of the worst floods recorded in recent times, submerging roads, houses, and farms, ripping off roofs and shops and thereby causing a setback to business activities and livelihood in the area.

The disaster has exacerbated the area’s infrastructural deficit with damages and estimated losses running into millions of Ghana Cedis.

“It is very critical that immediate relief is brought to mitigate the human suffering that has become unbearable consequences on the lives of my people” Hon. Jinapor said.

The MP called on government, non-governmental organisations, international aid agencies and philanthropists to as a matter of urgency support the victims as those displaced by the catastrophe are in dire need of shelter, food and clean drinking water.

Some 1,500 residents including women and children from 500 households were displaced by floodwaters last week in Buipe in the Central Gonja District of the Savannah Region.

The Central Gonja office of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) has indicated that some 239 adult males and 230 adult females including 348 boys and 427 girls have been compelled to evacuate their homes following last week’s flood in the area.

NADMO further reports that three public toilets and an immeasurable number of private ones are now submerged, posing potential health hazards.
