Nsoatreman FC withdraw from 2024/2025 Ghana Premier League

Nsoatreman FC has announced their withdrawal from the 2024/2025 Ghana Premier League season, as well as from all other competitions organized by the Ghana Football Association (GFA).

A statement released on Friday, March 14 and signed by the club president, Ignatius Baffuor Awuah, cited concerns over the security and safety of players as the reason for their withdrawal.

The statement explained that the club was compelled to make this decision due to recent incidents arising from their match against Asante Kotoko, which they have already reported to the football association.

“We write to respectfully withdraw from the ongoing Ghana Premier League and any other competitions organized by the GHANA FOOTBALL ASSOCIATION due to concerns over the security and safety of our players,” the statement read.

“We are forced to take this decision due to recent events involving our matches with Kumasi Asante Kotoko and Samatex FC, which we officially wrote to your high office.”

“In light of this, We can no longer guarantee the safety of our players, therefore, management and board of directors are left with no choice but to prioritize the safety and security of our players by withdrawing from the League,” it added.

The club also expressed apologies for any inconvenience their withdrawal may cause and thanked the league officials for their understanding.

“We regret any inconveniences this decision may cause. Thank you for your cooperation,” the statement concluded.

The GFA has yet to respond to Nsoatreman’s request, but if approved, the league will proceed with 17 teams instead of 18 for the remaining 14 matches.

This decision follows a violent incident during Nsoatreman’s Matchday 19 encounter with Asante Kotoko at Nana Kronmansah Park. The match tragically resulted in the death of Asante Kotoko supporter Francis Yaw Frimpong, also known as Nana Pooley, who was fatally stabbed by unknown assailants.

Meanwhile, Nana Pooley was laid to rest on March 6 following a fitting funeral service that attracted hundreds of football fans at the Heroes Park, Baba Yara Stadium.
