Disagreement over pay, not friendlies, led to Nora Häuptle’s exit – GFA

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has clarified that Swiss manager Nora Häuptle’s departure from her role as head coach of the Black Queens was due to disagreements over remuneration, not the lack of friendly matches.

Häuptle, appointed in 2023, left her position after her contract expired, subsequently signing a three-year deal to coach Zambia’s national women’s team.

The former coach had earlier expressed dissatisfaction on her LinkedIn profile about the Black Queens’ limited friendly matches compared to other nations ahead of the 2025 Women’s African Cup of Nations.

Addressing the issue, GFA spokesperson Henry Asante Twum stated, “We only failed to play a friendly match in November.

How is that enough reason for the coach not to have her contract extended?

It is purely an issue of remuneration disagreement.”

Twum highlighted the GFA’s efforts in organizing several friendlies, including matches against Benin, Senegal (twice), and Japan, where the Black Queens suffered a 4-0 defeat.

“In November, we planned friendlies against Senegal, Tunisia, and France.

These did not materialize due to logistical challenges, including the distance and player fatigue after the Japan match.

Despite this, all arrangements were made by the FA,” Twum explained.
