Mahama Appoints Prosper Bani, Kofi Boakye, Totobi Quakyi, Gbevlo-Lartey to Interim National Security Team

President-Elect John Dramani Mahama has announced the formation of a six-member Interim National Security Coordinating Team to oversee national security operations during the transitional period of his incoming administration.

The team, which begins its work on Tuesday, January 7, 2025, will be chaired by Prosper Douglas Bani, a former Minister for the Interior. Its mandate is to ensure a seamless transition of power and maintain national security during the early days of the new government.

The members of the interim team are distinguished figures with extensive experience in security and governance:

Lt. General Peter Augustine Blay (Rtd.), former Chief of Defence Staff

Kofi Totobi Quakyi, former Minister for National Security

Larry Gbevlo-Lartey Esq., former National Security Coordinator

Brigadier General Fuseini Iddrissu (Rtd.)

COP Nathaniel Kofi Boakye (Rtd.)

A press release issued by Mr Mahama’s special aide, Felix Kwakye Ofosu said the decision reflects the President-Elect’s commitment to ensuring continuity and stability in the country’s security architecture during the transfer of power.

This team brings together seasoned professionals whose expertise and experience are critical for managing the country’s security during this important period.

Prosper Douglas Bani, the team leader, is recognized for his leadership and dedication to public service. His tenure as Minister for the Interior was marked by efforts to enhance national security and public safety.

Observers and stakeholders have welcomed the announcement, emphasizing the importance of a proactive approach to national security during government transitions. The team is expected to collaborate closely with existing security agencies to address any emerging challenges and lay the foundation for the new administration’s security policies.

President-Elect Mahama will be sworn in on January 7, 2025, marking the beginning of his term after his victory in the December 2024 general elections.
