The visionary founder of the KAMA Group of Companies, Nana Dr. Michael Agyekum Addo has passed away at the age of 74. Dr Addo died on Friday, November 1, 2024, leaving behind a legacy as a trailblazer in Ghana’s pharmaceutical industry and a highly respected entrepreneur.
His entrepreneurial journey began in 1983 when he opened a pharmaceutical shop in Kumasi. In 1986, he expanded his efforts by producing medical products from his garage, leading to the establishment of the KAMA Group of Companies. Today, his business empire includes a network of wholesale and retail pharmaceutical outlets throughout Ghana, along with a micro-finance firm, a real estate enterprise, and a multi-purpose conference centre.
Beyond his business ventures, Dr Addo was dedicated to education and youth empowerment. He founded the Kama Education Project, which aims to train teachers to foster entrepreneurial skills among students. Additionally, he authored several books designed to inspire and instil a “can-do” attitude in young Ghanaians.
In recognition of his contributions, the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) awarded him an honorary doctorate in 2005. Dr Addo continued his academic journey and was among the 88 PhD graduates from the University of Ghana in 2022.
