Independent presidential candidate and leader of the New Vision Movement, Kofi Koranteng has formally unveiled his manifesto, dubbed the “Mega 3-Some.” The event, held at the CLOSSAG Auditorium, Accra on Thursday, October 31, 2024, brought together other presidential aspirants who couldn’t make it on the ballot paper for the December polls, supporters, and concerned citizens eager to hear Koranteng’s transformative agenda. The event also saw the introduction of an educationist, Emmanuel Semordzi as Kofi Koranteng’s running mate.
In a speech at the event, Mr Koranteng laid out his vision for a “New Ghana,” stressing a government free of corruption and focused on empowering citizens across all sectors. “Together, united, we cannot be defeated,” he declared, rallying support from other presidential aspirants, including Owura Ntim Agyarko, Dr. Agnes Ayisha, and Tawiah Nkrumah Hemans.
Koranteng’s Mega 3-Some manifesto, structured around three major pillars of governance, centres on anti-corruption, a robust national development plan, and a streamlined, efficient government that works for the people. Key components of the manifesto include:
- Constitutional Reforms: Koranteng advocates for a restructured government with checks on executive power and a mandate for public service leaders such as the Electoral Commissioner, Accountant General, and Inspector General of Police to be elected through the public service commission.
- Anti-Corruption Measures: Koranteng pledges to prosecute those who have caused economic loss to Ghana since 1957, to recover stolen public funds. He emphasized that corruption is at the heart of issues like illegal mining, which his government will address by cutting off its financial and political roots.
- National Development and Technological Advancements: A 50-year National Development Plan, with a dedicated $10 billion investment annually in technology, will aim to make Ghana an agricultural powerhouse. Koranteng’s plans include reducing the size of government by 73% and reinvesting agricultural savings, mechanized by drone technology, to turn Ghana into Africa’s agricultural hub.
Addressing the issue of illegal mining, or “galamsey,” Koranteng explained how it will be eradicated by tackling corruption and providing alternative livelihoods in education, trade, technology, and civil service for those affected.
“In my media appearances, I have had to explain to the interviewer that every concern for
Ghana is addressed in the five points. “What about galamsey?”, one asked. This is how galamsey is addressed in the Koranteng Mega Agenda for Ghana. At the root of galamsey is government corruption. The Mega Agenda for Ghana begins by rooting out and cutting off the tentacles of corruption at every level of government to end this deadly practice that robs years of the lives of our people. Those who lose their income from working in the illegal mining trade will be supported by a modernized educational system that will provide opportunities for jobs in trades, arts, science, technology, banking, civil service, agriculture and more.”
Koranteng took a firm stance on the role of the Electoral Commission (EC), warning against any undue advantage for the ruling NPP party and urging all presidential aspirants to present a united front to hold the EC accountable.
“The EC and the NPP see the passing of Sister Akua Donkor as a golden opportunity to seize an unscrupulous advantage in the 2024 Presidential Election. The only two ballot positions that would not be affected under this late change are #1 and #2. The #1 ballot position is of course held by the NPP to whom the EC is beholden to do their bidding. All other candidates will be adversely affected because they have announced and advertised their ballot positions to the voters. I and my campaign will address this issue further in the days ahead and look forward to a united front among all presidential aspirants and their parties to hold the EC accountable.”
