North Gonja District: NCCE Engages Communities to Promote Peace Ahead of December 7th Polls

The National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) in North Gonja District has intensified efforts to foster peaceful elections and civic participation ahead of Ghana’s December 7th General Elections. Leveraging local media platforms, the NCCE is actively promoting peaceful campaigns and encouraging communities to engage constructively in the electoral process.

A significant meeting, sponsored by the European Union (EU) as part of the Preventing and Containing Violent Extremism (PCVE) Action in Northern Ghana initiative, took place in Anyanto.

Addressing the gathering, the NCCE Director for North Gonja District, Mr Matthew Dute, urged the youth to become positive forces for peace rather than engaging in electoral violence.

“Support peaceful campaigns and refrain from electoral violence,” Mr. Dute encouraged. “Youth can make a positive impact by participating in peaceful protests, exercising their right to peaceful assembly, and engaging in free speech.”

Participants echoed these sentiments. Alhassan Rafiw expressed appreciation for the efforts in educating the youth on peaceful elections, democratic engagement, and conflict resolution. Mahama Nurudeen, a resident of Anyanto, pledged to motivate the community’s youth to promote social cohesion through community service and volunteer work, fostering a spirit of peaceful coexistence.
