The Director General of the National Sports Authority (NSA), Prof Peter Twumasi has been sacked from office.
The embattled DG was relieved from office today, March 5, 2024.
Dodzie Numekevor has been appointed as his acting replacement until a permanent appointment is made. Numekevor’s appointment, signed by Nana Asante Bediatuo, Executive Secretary to President Akufo-Addo on February 26, 2024, is subject to his acceptance within 14 days.
The decision to replace Prof. Twumasi was hinted at about two weeks ago, and he was subsequently summoned to the Jubilee House to answer various queries against him.
Despite his plea for leniency, it seems the appointing authority decided to proceed with the change, as his dismissal was communicated to the board approximately two weeks ago.
Prof. Twumasi assumed the role of Director General on December 10, 2018, succeeding Robert Sarfo Mensah, who resigned amidst allegations arising from the ‘number 12’ exposé by Anas Aremeyaw Anas and Tiger EyePI.
In addition to Prof. Twumasi’s departure, several regional heads within the NSA have been transferred to the head office in Accra. These include Salamatu Alhassan from the Northern Region, Alexander Tiiku from the Central Region, Emmanuel Appiah from the Ashanti Region, and Daniel Sarpei from the Volta Region.
Throughout his time in office, Prof. Twumasi has faced continuous scrutiny regarding his handling of Ghana’s stadiums, leading to persistent demands from football enthusiasts for his dismissal.
