Five Ghanaian media personalities have been admitted to the legal profession after being called to the Ghana Bar on Friday, October 9, 2026.
The five are Channel One TV and Citi FM journalist Umaru Sanda Amadu, Joy News journalist Ayisha Ibrahim, actress and TV3 presenter Naa Ashorkor Duodu, EIB Network General Manager Rev. Nana Yaa Serwaa Sarpong, and Evening Mail founder Nana Kwasi Asuman-Frimpong.
They were among 1,568 newly qualified lawyers admitted to the legal profession at a ceremony organised by the General Legal Council in Accra.
Their achievement highlights how professionals in journalism, broadcasting, entertainment and media management are pursuing legal training alongside their established careers.
Welcoming the newly qualified lawyers and other dignitaries, Judicial Secretary Musah Ahmed said the call to the Bar marked the transition from legal education to professional practice.
He explained that the General Legal Council (GLC) was mandated under Section 7 of the Legal Profession Act, 1960 (Act 32), to convene formal meetings for the enrolment and call to the Bar of qualified applicants.
Mr Ahmed said the ceremony represented not only the culmination of an academic journey but also the beginning of a vocation requiring diligence, sacrifice and family support.
He reminded the new lawyers that their admission to the profession came with the responsibility of upholding the rule of law.
“As you prepare to receive your certificates, you do not only do so as an individual who has met an exacting standard, but also as officers of the court,” he said.
The 2026 Call to the Bar ceremony brought together 1,568 newly qualified lawyers, including media personalities, public officials and other professionals.
Among the public figures admitted were Samuel Nartey George, MP for Ningo-Prampram and Minister of Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations; Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, MP for Ellembelle and Minister of Lands and Natural Resources; Davis Ansah Opoku, MP for Mpraeso; and Phyllis Naa Koryoo Okunor, MP for Awutu Senya East.
