A 27-year-old man, Mohammed Rafiu, has been convicted and sentenced by the Hohoe Circuit Court for unlawful entry and theft of musical instruments belonging to a church in Hohoe, the Volta North Regional Police Command has announced.
According to a press release issued by the Public Affairs Unit of the Ghana Police Service and signed by Inspector Felix Kwao, stated that the conviction follows an incident that occurred on June 5, 2026, at the Faith International Ministry Church in Hohoe.
The statement said Rafiu was spotted by members of the public near the church carrying a sack containing various items while attempting to hail a vehicle. His conduct aroused suspicion among witnesses, who approached him and inspected the contents of the sack.
The inspection revealed several church-owned musical and sound equipment, including an amplifier, an equaliser, a mixer, and a crossover machine. The items were subsequently identified as property belonging to the church.
Following the discovery, Rafiu was arrested and handed over to the Hohoe Police District Command for investigations. During interrogation, he admitted to the offences levelled against him, police disclosed.
The accused was arraigned before the Hohoe Circuit Court on June 8, 2026, where he pleaded guilty to charges of unlawful entry and stealing. The court subsequently convicted him on both counts.
He was sentenced to three years’ imprisonment for unlawful entry and four years’ imprisonment for stealing. The court ordered that the sentences run concurrently, meaning he will serve them at the same time.
The Volta North Regional Police Command has commended members of the public for their vigilance and cooperation, which led to the arrest and successful prosecution of the offender.
The Command further urged residents to remain alert and promptly report any suspicious or criminal activities to the police to help maintain peace, security, and public safety within their communities.
